News:

The KIDS THRIVE study has recruited 503 patients with WCH PICU in Adelaide recruiting the 500th patient to this trial at the end of April 2020. Recruitment has been a bit slower since the Covid 19 crisis due to reduced surgical lists and our PICU’s and ED’s being quieter.

The KIDS THRIVE Steering Committee is working hard in the background to finalise the data cleaning process for all patients and aims to commence this shortly.

This trial is exceptional, and we thank the huge effort that all sites continue to put in to making this study successful and demonstrating that research can be done in critically ill children in the emergency setting when we all work together.

Thank you!

PARIS study is complete!

Congratulations to Donna, Andreas and the team – the PARIS STUDY IS COMPLETE!

A total of 1514 patients were enrolled with the end point being reached in 15 months – no small feat at all.

This has been a huge effort from everyone involved with contributions from 14 hospitals in both ED and general paediatrics.

The aim now is for another NEJM if possible.  That would be the icing on the cake!

Getting to know you – Prof. Sandy Middleton

Our “Getting to Know You” segment ensures PREDICT members are aware of new members, their interests and areas of expertise and where they are located.

This month we introduce Professor Sandy Middleton from the Nursing Research Institute (NRI).

“I am the Director of the Nursing Research Institute (NRI), a collaboration between St Vincent’s Health Network Sydney, St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne and Australian Catholic University. Our team conducts rigorous multidisciplinary clinical and health services research focused on improving patient outcomes and health systems.

I have a particular interest in implementation science research examining ways to promote evidence translation in the areas of stroke management, hospital-acquired complications and patient safety. I am one of the chief investigators in the NHMRC Paediatric Emergency Medicine Centre for Research Excellence leading the implementation science research projects.”

PREDICT Research and COVID 19

Dear PREDICT members,

We hope that you are staying well amidst the craziness of the ever changing COVID 19 situation.

The PREDICT Executive have discussed the effects of COVID 19 situation at length in view of our research program. Clearly this will have a significant impact on individual site’s capacity and our research activities overall. Some research projects may need to halt certain activities or delay commencement whilst others may be able to progress preparatory work etc.

Please wait to be advised by the individual project lead for advice and or direct specific questions to the appropriate project lead.

Please also see below a link to NHMRC grant advice.

NHMRC released advice regarding grant administration matters

We are currently reviewing this along with information from our own grants department.

Stay safe.

Key points we wish to bring to your attention are:

  • Please read the “Requirements for authorship”  – which provides guidance on how to make authorship decisions when there are large groups of potential authors.
A new planning template and example is provided.
  • Please ensure you acknowledge the Centre for Research Excellence grant using the wording noted in the guidelines.
  • All PREDICT publications must be reviewed by the Chair of PREDICT prior to submission to a journal.
