ANZ Emergency Department Airway Registry – Steering Group EOI

PREDICT involvement in ANZ Emergency Department Airway Registry
– Expression of Interest to take part in a steering group

The PREDICT Network is developing a collaboration with the Australian and New Zealand Emergency Department Airway Registry (ANZEDAR) to capture data on paediatric intubations.  The ANZEDAR is a publicly funded, existing registry that has been capturing data on primarily adult ED intubations over the last 4 years. They are interested in capturing paediatric intubation data, and using the research experience of PREDICT to move their data collection tool online, and develop research questions from the data.

The primary purpose of our involvement with ANZEDAR is to monitor patient safety, with the aim to improve safety over time. Involvement of multiple sites will allow benchmarking of care, sharing interventions to improve care, and an embedded continuous audit process over time. Descriptive and interventional studies will likely follow.

We wish to invite interested members of PREDICT to be involved in our own steering group.  This group will work together to provide recommendations to the ANZEDAR re the paediatric dataset as well as contributing to governance for this project across the PREDICT network.

If you are interested in being involved in the steering group for this collaboration, please contact Dr Elliot Long at Elliot.long@rch.org.au by Friday 19th April 2019.

Project Snapshot – Bell’s Palsy in Children (BellPIC) Study

Enrolment:

120 participants enrolled into the study.

No primary outcome on 8 (2 withdrew, 1 had alternative diagnosis, 5 lost to follow up at 1 month visit)

Update:

  • We are going to extend the study for 1 year in order to recruit more patients as we are far below our recruitment target.
  • The study will officially finish in April 2021. Recruitment will cease 6 months prior to this (October 2020) to allow for the follow up period.
  • We are ceasing recruitment at John Hunter hospital and The Townsville hospital on April 1. We would like to thank both hospitals and their research teams for the hard work they have put into the study over the past 3 years.

Getting to know you: meet new PREDICT member Tanya Mellett.

Our “Getting to know you” segment ensures PREDICT members are aware of new members, their interests and areas of expertise and where they are located.  This month we introduce Tanya Mellett from Townsville Hospital.

“I work at Townsville Hospital Emergency Department. It is the tertiary hospital for North Queensland. We see approximately 90,000 patients per year in ED.

Research interests: I have taken over as Director of Research for 2019. I oversee research and audits occurring in the department. Currently, we are part of six paediatric multi-centre trials. My interest is broad and expanding!”

Getting to know you: Meet new PREDICT member Tristan Turner

Our “Getting to know you” segment ensures PREDICT members are aware of new members, their interests and areas of expertise and where they are located.  This month we introduce Tristan Turner from Townsville Hospital.

“I work as an Emergency Staff Specialist at the Townsville Hospital ED and as a retrieval doctor for Lifeflight out of the Townsville base.

My research interests open to negotiation.”
