“Getting to know you” – new PREDICT member Riku Haataja

Our “Getting to know you” segment ensures PREDICT members are aware of new members, their interests and areas of expertise and where they are located.  This month we introduce Riku Haataja from Gold Coast University Hospital.

I have worked in the Gold Coast University Hospital ED since we opened our doors in late 2013. With over 100,000 presentations each year, we are on our way to being one of the busiest departments in the country.

My research interests include studies that will help standardise and improve the safety of the care delivered to the children in our community. Our current trials will definitely help steer us in the right direction. I am currently coordinating the PARIS2 study at GCUH.

“Getting to know you” – new PREDICT member Bronwyn Griffin

Our “Getting to know you” segment ensures PREDICT members are aware of new members, their interests and areas of expertise and where they are located.  This month we introduce Bronwyn Griffin from Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital.

Bronwyn is a Senior Research Fellow with the Centre for Children’s Burns and Trauma Research based at Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital and the Queensland University of Technology. Her clinical background spans from her nursing experience in paediatric emergency at RCH Melbourne and RCH Brisbane and more recently at LCCH.  This clinical experience has shaped Bronwyn’s research focus on decreasing the incidence, severity and burden of trauma and burns. With research spanning the spectrum of paediatric trauma care, her previous and current research projects include pre-hospital, emergency management, procedural preparation and distraction, wound healing and care coordination.

Bronwyn is pictured here with her team who were recognised for clinical research excellence in 2017.

“Getting to know you” – new PREDICT member Joanna Cronin

Our “Getting to know you” segment ensures PREDICT members are aware of new members, their interests and areas of expertise and where they are located.  This month we introduce Joanna Cronin from Gold Coast University Hospital.

“I am currently working as a clinical nurse at the Gold Coast ED.  I have over 20 years of ED and ICU experience, both in clinical and managerial roles.

I started working as a research nurse part time last year working with Dr Shane George. My portfolio includes Kids THRIVE, VICTOR , SEARCh and RAPIDS.  I am enjoying the experience and learning each day.

I would like to continue working in paediatric research but enjoy my clinical days on the floor.  I believe by remaining part of the ED clinical team I can continue to educate staff daily and be aware of any issues with regards to clinical trials.

The paediatric research world is becoming bigger and I am privileged to be part of the wonderful research that is currently taking place.”
